About Us

Our Mission

The mission of The Power to Follow Through is to provide people with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to consistently turn their own good intentions into life-improving action.

The Power to Follow Through is a collaboration between clinical psychologist and follow through expert, Dr. Steve Levinson, and online education and communications specialist, Jeff Cohan.

Steve and Jeff have worked together for over two decades. They are passionate about the important but often overlooked role the ability to follow through plays in personal effectiveness and satisfaction. And they are committed to helping as many people as possible master the art of following through.

About Steve Levinson

Steve Levinson

Dr. Levinson is a clinical psychologist, author and inventor who has devoted his career to helping people follow through on their own good intentions. An internationally-recognized expert on the topic of following through, his groundbreaking work has been featured on TV, radio and in print media around the world.

In the early 1980’s, Levinson began a quest to learn why even highly motivated people so often fail to follow through on their self-improvement plans. It just didn’t make sense to him that people would invest so much of their time, energy, money and hope only to fizzle out before the job was done. So, he set aside previously unquestioned assumptions that psychologists and others had been making about how the normal human mind treats good intentions, went searching for the truth, and found it.

Levinson discovered that the reason we humans do such a lousy job of following through is that the mind is poorly designed for following through! His insights led him to invent the MotivAider®, an ingeniously simple tool that’s been used by tens of thousands of people of all ages in over 50 countries to make desired changes in their own behavior, thinking and habits.

In the late 1990’s, Levinson teamed up with peak performance consultant, Peter Greider, to achieve an even deeper understanding of why good intentions so often die young. Together, Levinson and Greider wrote Following Through: A Revolutionary New Model for Finishing Whatever You Start. Now in its third edition, this critically acclaimed book set forth their surprising discoveries and compelling explanation for why we humans often do such a lousy job of following through. And it introduced readers to bold new ideas about what it actually takes to follow through in light of how the mind really does work instead of how we only think it should work.

Levinson later collaborated with UK business expert, Chris Cooper, to write “The Power to Get Things Done (Whether You Feel Like It or Not),” which was published by Penguin Random House in 2015. Written especially for individuals who work on their own, the book applies Levinson’s discoveries, concepts, principles and strategies to the unique follow through challenges that independent business people face.

Dr. Levinson was born and raised in New York City. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queens College of the City University of New York and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Rochester. He moved to Minnesota in the early 1970’s to develop and direct an innovative rural mental health program that flourished under his leadership for thirty-five years.

The co-founder, president and CEO of Behavioral Dynamics, Inc., the company that developed the MotivAider® and supported MotivAider users worldwide, Levinson lives in Minnesota, where he recently achieved Psychologist Emeritus status.
